Comic Book Review: Fusion

Image
Comic Book: Fusion Author: Steven Barnes Issues: 17 Hard Core Scale: 2/4 Normal Scale: 7/10 Publish Date: 1987 Eclipse About: The Tsunami and its very diverse crew take on various mercenary jobs throughout the galaxy. Often had Weasel Patrol and Dr. Watchstop as back issues. Review: A fine dream of the B/W era. A mixed bag of things. When Gallacci and Dowling are at the art helm things tend to be stronger and more series. Other artists have various degree of success. Gallacci knows how to preserve space and is a treat as always. It’s hard to enjoy when the artist is not Gallacci. Though as always there are weak backgrounds. What hurts is the nature of its story. We start of strong with a five-part series in a unique and vibrant SF universe rife with aliens and genetic creations. Fun imaginative art that is made stronger by the B/W.  Creature designs are the selling point along with Gallacci's knack for tech. The deep history of the universe does not have to explain...

Nothing is wasted, nothing goofey, pure storytelling work at its finest. It has been done and done well. Purpose on every page. A pinnacle of anthropomorphic fiction.     Cover by the Great Heather Burton, Sofa Wolf Press, Fenrir  Press.

Comic Review: Once and Future

Image
Comic Book: Once and Future Author: Kireon Gillen, Et, Al. Issues: 30 Hard Core Scale: 3/4 Normal Scale: 8/10 Publish Date: 2019 About: A man’s grandma escapes from the retirement home while an archaeologist crew is murdered upon finding a scabbard at a site. A once and future King reveals themselves through prophecy and a story of stories begins. Review: Good art with some lazy corners. Terrible scene skipping and some confusing panels and muddled action. The story though is fun and characters likeable. One can argue of base female architypes as wandering uterus over proactive of their children driving plots, but in folk-motifs that can be debated acceptable as far as this plot goes.   There is no depth outside of that story relationship. That is where this comic thrives is in its use of stories and their effects of reality old and new. The actual story gets messy and parts could be debated cut. Still worth the read and fun stuff.   Issue 1 Cover, Boom Studios...
